30 Day Shred with Jillian Michaels

30dayshred

I will share a few secrets with you today on my blog.

1. I suck at sticking with exercise programs.

2. I LOVE FOOD (I guess that is not really a secret).

3. I have a bunch of jeans that are hidden away just waiting for my hips and butt and thighs to fit into them again.

4. I want to wear a bikini

5. Sometimes I am too comfortable in my own slothness.

6. I have to force myself to drink water (I add lemon juice.)

So now that we have those out of the way let me tell you what I am attempting to do about all of the above and give you a little history. First the history (because of course I would start with the second thing listed).

I was not the fat kid in school but I was for sure not the skinny kid. Probably a lot of how I looked came from the fact that I didn’t know how to dress myself properly. In high school I started dressing better and I also played Rugby. So for high school I was at my lowest weight and was very fit (I was 135lbs, and I am 5’6” and I had a lot of muscle), and then I went to college. I know what you are thinking (freshmen 15), but it didn’t happen. I stayed around 140 for my first two years and I looked pretty cute. I walked a lot but I didn’t eat that healthy (a lot of ramen noodles and lucky charms), but I stayed skinny. Third year is where my weight came on, like 40lbs of weight. I don’t know where it came from or how it happened (well I bought a car that didn’t help). I was still playing soccer and I was watching what I was eating but I gained a ton of weight. So that was in 2007 and I have stayed around 180lb since that time. I had a baby and went right back to that, and that is where I am stuck.

So I am a part of a summer weight loss thing with a bunch of girls on facebook (which starts June 21), and I started the 30 Day Shred with Jillian Michaels. It has 3 levels and each level is 10 days. I like that because it is short and I have a much better chance at completing them. Each workout is a little less than 30 minutes which is nice for a busy mom, and I love that she changes what you are doing every 30-60 seconds so just as you are starting to die she tells you only 4 more and you can push through.

So far I have done day 1 and 2 of level 1 and it is pretty intense, but I have lived and I will keep doing it. I took before pictures but I am much to embarrassed to post them just yet since I am wearing little shorts and a sports bra (which means you can see all my not so sexy rolls and my “I had a baby” belly). I know that in 30 days I will not lose 40 lbs which is what I want to lose, but at least it will get me started (hopefully). I also go for walks a lot and many times on those walks I have a 20lb baby on my back in a carrier.

So here’s to bringing out those secret stash of jeans I have hidden and fitting into them.

P.S. for added encouragement I put my before pictures as my background on my computer so that I have to see them A LOT and it drives me nuts and forces me to think about doing my exercises and eating healthy.

  1. Good luck! I was pretty thin my whole life and am now overweight. It’s livable – I’m not usually embarrassed to go out or anything – but if nothing else I NEED to get toned. I am a lazy sloth too though. My husband totally reinforces by bringing home crap food and making me plates of it to nom on. He NEVER complains about my body, which is good obviously, but makes it even harder to stay motivated.

I find that it’s at least easier in the summer. When I am wearing skimpier clothes and can physically SEE where those pounds are and where my food will go, it’s a lot easier to eat better and less.

    • The before pictures I took (where I am hardly wearing anything) are my desktop background so I have to see it ALL THE TIME. It is making me think twice before I do something or makes me realize I need to do my exercises for the day.

  2. Hi, first of all, I’m Kerry, a new follower to your blog!

I’m really glad you posted this. I actually have this and did it for about two weeks, and (at the time was a full time nursing student and am a mom of 2 babies) blamed my busy schedule and said I didn’t have time for it. I’m currently a SAHM and your post has inspired me to get back to it! Thanks and all the luck to you with it!

    • thanks Kerry, I hope I finish it out. good luck to you.

  3. Brilliant idea, putting the Before photos as your desktop background! I’m going to do that right now. :)
